I believe that, while building up a theoretical framework is essential, it is equally important to hone one’s skills through practical, hands-on application. My experience as an undergraduate tutor of Calculus, and as a peer tutor of Java Programming Language, tremendously strengthened my mathematical and computational skills. Again, in search of practical applications of my growing financial skills, I opened my own clothing store in Kunming, China. My venture into entrepreneurship was one of the learning experiences of my lifetime! I acquired inventory management skills, learned the art of creating a financial forecast, and gained valuable entrepreneurial experience. Above all, I learned to trust my business instincts and overcome my ambivalence in demonstrating initiative. The defining project of my career has been my stint as an intern at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Yunnan, Kunming, Nanping Branch (ICBC) in the summer of 2010. As a financial analyst, I experienced a deep sense of job satisfaction, and the reinforced conviction that this was the career meant for me. It was a great experience to be a part of ICBC, which boasts the achievement of successfully weathering the global recession and the slowing down of the Chinese economy. My assignment concerned a company called ‘Dao,’ which was involved in a wind farm project. ICBC was interested in acquiring this concern, and my responsibilities included providing evaluations and appraisal reports to the senior management team, as they consolidated information to fix the right offer price. I went into an in-depth study of the renewable energy industry, in order to strengthen my credentials as a worthwhile team member, and assisted in financial analyses. It was great to partic ipate in company meetings, and make a genuine contribution to the decision-making process, through my weekly and monthly reports and presentations. I learned to prepare various spreadsheets in Excel, which provided a clear picture of the relevant financial data. My mathematical and analytic skills improved in leaps and bounds as I addressed the task of managing a specific set of deliverables, gathering financial data, interpreting and expressing this complex financial and mathematical data in comprehensive terms, and effectively communicating my opinion to the team. This internship also gave me the opportunity to gain knowledge of capital markets, portfolio management, and financial sales. I believe that Financial Engineering is not just about crunching numbers, but a field of creative endeavor. It is finance which keeps the wheels of the global economy turning. Financial Engineering is rich with myriad opportunities to help the world to reach a level of prosperity which will benefit all, especially the developing nations. I am confident that I can do my own part to contribute to the betterment of the global economy as a financial engineer.

The young adults that participate in religious institutions, come from families which are not into drugs, alcohol, violence, or any sort of crime. So the effects these religious institutions have are great on young people in society. Religious adolescents can encourage one another to be successful in school, sports, and other activities. In my own past experiences when growing up, the people I have chosen as friends weren’t always the coolest, or craziest, but they were always good for their word. These types of friends are valuable for positive peer pressure and are important to keep. Friends, as it is seen, are a major source of peer pressure that one encounters when growing up. I believe from past experiences, friends have the strongest influence on us.   The effects from our friends can sometimes be really good or truly bad. If one friend brings the bottle to the hang out and tells another teen to try it because it is â€Å"so cool,† he or she will experiment with it not knowing what effects it can lead to. One of the reasons that our society finds it difficult to handle teen’s drug use is because adolescent culture does not consist of â€Å"one uniform, homogeneous group.† (Miller, 107). Teens and children are also having sex at a young age because most of their friends may be doing the same thing.   They want to fit in and be part of the â€Å"in-crowd† so they will not follow what they feel is right and so they will take part in sexual behavior in order to be â€Å"cool.† Sex is just one issue that adolescents are faced with. Consumption of alcohol is another factor that can lead to bad decisions based on the friendships that they make. Choosing the friends one hangs out with can sometimes be difficult.   Even though we know what is right from wrong we still have the tendency to do the wrong thing. Comparing Societies Weakness from the Perspective of Two Authors Carol Travis and Ellen Goodman are both writers from different backgrounds with different experiences, but they share a common opinion. Both writers find a weakness with in our society. In the article In Groups We Shrink From Loner’s Heroics Travis expresses his views on societies weakness. He believes our weakness lies in the lack of emergency response in groups. In the article Countering the Culture of Sex Goodman feels the weakness is lack of sexual education given to teenagers. Though they both have different opinions, they represent a strong case for both sides. In Carol Tavris’ article, In Groups We Shrink From Loner’s Heroics, there is information about a social concern. Tavris feels that society does not respond to emergencies the same in groups as they do individually. â€Å"Something happens to individuals when they collect in a group. They think and act differently than they would on their own. Most people, if they observe some disaster or danger on their own – a woman being stabbed, a pedestrian slammed by a it-and-run driver – will at least call for help; many will even risk their own safety to intervene. But if they are in a group observing the same danger, they hold back.† (Tavris, 17) Even though people were put through, identical test the ones who were in the group atmosphere did not respond as much as the people who where alone. â€Å"In one experiment in behavioral psychology, students were seated in a room, either alone, or in-groups of three, as staged an emergency occurred: Smoke began pou ring through the vents. It is the caverns that give the state park its name. Even so, there is a great spring group about a mile upstream of the boat ramp.Called Bezel, the main spring has a clear shallow run from the east and leads to a lovely spring pool that strongly invites a dip, even a skinny dip when no one is around. Three more springs line the banks just below and above Bezel, and the park is a popular pull-out for overnight and weekend cancers. The official swimming area is yet another spring called Blue Hole. The spring forms three pools, one of which has a nice beach and dive littoral. The water in the main spring is a deep, milky blue and its 68 degrees are very refreshing on a hot summer day.The Florida Caverns Golf Course is adjacent to the park and is a separate concession.
